Mediation
I mediate in the following areas: Deaf Education, Special Education, Civil Rights, Disability Employment Issues, and Disability Community Issues*. As a neutral third party, it is my role to facilitate conversations between the part(ies) in a conflict. I am not there to act as a judge nor as an attorney. I am present to design a process that helps people move forward in their lives.
As a Deaf mediator fluent in American Sign Language and English, I can act as a language and cultural mediator between Deaf and hearing parties. A benefit of this is that I can lend my expertise in screening for qualified sign language interpreters to interpret during the process. Additionally, people in conflict may experience difficulty in expressing their emotions and the impact the conflict has on them. As a Deaf adult that navigates well between the Deaf and hearing worlds, I can impart my knowledge to help people see other perspectives in a conflict in order to generate traction towards a meaningful resolution.
* While I generally do not practice mediation in areas of family law, landlord and tenant disputes, and other areas, I will consider the special circumstances in mediating cases between people that use American Sign Language and/or identify as Deaf. Contact me to discuss further details.

"Brittany did an amazing job for my son's educational environment. He would not have his interpreter right now if it were not for her calm and informed reasoning at the IEP table. So grateful for her!”

Coaching
I believe in empowering organizations and individuals with necessary skills and techniques. My goal in life is to share my knowledge so that people are empowered to apply conflict resolution skills without needing my support. In short, I endeavor to put myself out of business.
Coaching is a sustained service over a period of time on topics such as Deafness, Deaf identities, Deaf history, Deaf culture, etc. for those that serve and work with Deaf person(s) and want to create a positive climate for everyone. Coaching is conducted one on one or in small groups.
In the Deaf Community, coaching is geared towards conflict resolution skills and practice that are delivered through the lens of Deaf culture and Deaf “bings” as well as adapted to suit the trends and preferences at the local level.
